As we all know, MLM companies have a HORRIBLE reputation! People who join lose money, some companies make their consultants keep inventory (which is what makes them lose money, because if they don’t sell it, it’s theirs), and the dreaded “Hey Girl I went to high school with but haven’t talked to since and barely even knew in high school, but please buy my product because it will change your life” messages. Ugh, those are the worst!! They’re super cringy to send and even cringier to receive.
As most people who read my blog know, I’m super into the toxin free lifestyle. Every product I use has to meet my strict ingredient standards before I spend money on it. With this whole all natural, organic, vegan, cruelty free trend going on, makeup companies seemed to be stepping it up and offering cleaner lines. Seemed to is the key phrase here… When I dug into research into the actual ingredients in these supposedly “clean” products, the ingredients I found weren’t clean.
These “clean, all natural” products hide behind a bunch of marketing claims but the ingredients don’t align with the claims. Unfortunately in the US, this is totally legal. SMH…
One company that really irks me with the clean beauty movement right now is Sephora. They have a “Clean at Sephora” label on products that don’t include 50ish toxic ingredients. Compare that to the European Union’s banning of almost 1,400 toxic chemicals and Sephora’s measly 50 is just a drop in the bucket.
Some (but definitely not all) of the toxic chemicals I’ve found in “Clean at Sephora” products are…
-Questionably sourced Mica (they say the Mica can’t include nano particles which is a step in the right direction however, a lot of Mica is sourced by using CHILD LABOR! Super unethical!)
-Powder Titanium Dioxide (which is toxic to inhale)
-Phenoxyethanol (Skin irritant and causes cancer)
-Propylene Glycol (skin irritant and may cause cancer)
-Avobenzone, Homosalate, Octocrylene (check out my sunscreen post for why these guys are bad).
-Fragrance (they do eliminate some fragrance by saying it can’t contain certain ingredients, but since companies don’t legally have to disclose anything, we’re just taking their word without having proof these certain chemicals aren’t in the “fragrance” ingredient. Also they say synthetic fragrance can’t be over 1% of the formula however, for someone with an allergy that amount means nothing…)
-PEG’s (contain 1,4-dioxane which is cancerous to humans)
-Disodium EDTA (cause chemicals to easily penetrate the skin which causes toxic chemicals to be easily absorbed)
Sorry, Sephora…you tried, but you fell very short in ensuring products are safe. Disappointed…
Beyond Sephora, there are other “toxin free” cosmetics companies that still use toxic ingredients! It drives me so crazy! How are people supposed to easily weed through the fake toxin free companies to find the good ones??!
Even Beauty Counter (another MLM) which we all know claims to be “toxin free” uses phenoxyethanol and talc in their products! And Arbonne (MLM too) is kind of sketchy to me as on their banned list, they have the abortion pill, anxiety medication, and other prescriptions listed as chemicals they don’t use…yeah no duh! You legally cannot sell those without a prescription! They also have healthy food items listed like almonds as “toxic chemicals” they don’t use…and they have phenoxyethanol in their beauty products and their “health” products are loaded with sugar. I could rant about Arbonne all day, but I won’t.
So through all my research on “clean, toxin free” brands, I first found 100% Pure Cosmetics. Their products are very clean overall and they’re great quality. They also have a big selection of products which I love! I’ve tried quite a few of their products including their foundation, lipstick, liquid eyeliner, shampoo, moisturizer, nail polish, face primer, and eyeshadow and everything is great! I have nothing bad to say about 100% Pure!
Then I started my blog and my Instagram page for toxin free living and there was a girl on Instagram who I followed and we would chat about toxin free products and toxin free living. She eventually invited me into her Facebook group which I loved! She shared so much great content on their about toxin free living! I learned so much from her! She would mention Crunchi cosmetics every once in a while and I eventually asked her about it and I placed an order! I had no idea she even sold it until I was asking her about ordering.
That is how non-pushy she was!
I got my first order, fell in love, and placed 2 more orders within weeks of my first order. She mentioned me signing up but I was hesitant so I declined, but it was no big deal. A few months later, I needed to restock my daylight and nightlight moisturizers and she happened to message me about an enrollment special Crunchi was having. With the special, it would cost me NOTHING to enroll because I could get my daylight and nightlight at a discount when I enrolled (because they were the 2 products in the smallest enrollment package at the time and since they were in the package, they were discounted.) So I actually SAVED money by enrolling! And now that I am an advocate, I get a discount on every Crunchi product I order!
Of course, before purchasing Crunchi for the first time and again before enrolling, I researched THE HECK out of their products to make sure they were really as clean as they say they are.
I didn’t want my name tied to a company that wasn’t as Toxin-Free as they claim. Crunchi really is completely Toxin Free! They are so transparent about their ingredients and the sources of their ingredients. They do third party testing to really ensure their products are 100% safe! They’re also Made in the USA so you don’t have to worry about anything sketchy coming from overseas. Most companies only do first party testing, if you even want to call it testing…it’s literally us as consumers taking a companies word that their products are safe without any evidence. It’s like Coca-Cola doing a study to make sure their soda doesn’t cause obesity and diabetes…*eyeroll*.
Crunchi has a Banished List of 63 common cosmetics ingredients that they do not allow in products however, in response to a question in Facebook comments about how many toxic chemicals does Crunchi really not use, the owner of the company herself said that the number of toxic chemicals Crunchi does not allow in their products is in the tens of thousands! A list that large would be overwhelming so they narrowed their list down to just the common ones to make it easy for shoppers and people just doing their research.
Did you know that there are between 75,000 and 85,000 chemicals and almost none of them have actually been tested for safety? The US has only banned 8 of them and restricted 3.
Since this company is so amazing, I was super happy to get involved! Even better, they give you all the tools you need to have success. I have never sent a single, ”Hey girl” message, I’ve never directly asked anyone to buy anything. Everyone who’s bought Crunchi from me has done it willingly without me pushing them into it. Crunchi wants to take the negative connotation away from multi-level marketing because it really can be legit!
This isn’t a post to get you to sign up as an advocate, (although you totally can if you want to! Here’s my link.) I just want to get the word out that there are MLM companies that really are great and non-sketchy, that are completely transparent, and that actually do put out quality products at competitive prices, that you actually can make real money from! But before signing up for a MLM company, please do ALL THE RESEARCH! Find out what others experiences have been, find out what kind of claims the company makes and do research on ingredients, customer experiences, former consultant experiences, etc. to make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into. There’s no such thing as a Get Rich Quick company. They all require work, so if you’re willing to put in the work, make sure it’s with a company with good morals and values, and one that aligns with your mission in life.
My passion is the toxin free lifestyle and educating people on ingredients, food, green washing, etc. and I truly feel Crunchi has been such an amazing asset for me and my journey and mission!
If you have any questions about the toxin free lifestyle, ingredients, food, or even Crunchi, feel free to leave a comment or send me a message on Instagram! I’d love to hear from you!
