I LOVE my fur baby…she is literally my child. I will not give her anything I wouldn’t give myself and that’s true with flea and tick prevention too.
I used to have her on Bravecto, however I’ve heard too many stories about Bravecto causing seizures and other neurological issues in dogs that I’m scared to give it to her.
Also Bravecto, and other oral preventative medications work by circulating the pesticide through the dog’s bloodstream. When a flea or tick bites the dog, the pesticide will kill them.
What I don’t like about this (besides the neurological side effects) is that it doesn’t REPEL ticks. Last summer, I found 2 embedded ticks on myself that I could only connect to my dog. The tick was on my dog, hadn’t bit my dog yet and therefore was still alive, the tick crawled on me for its meal.
Since then, I’ve found a much better Flea and Tick preventative method and it’s ALL NATURAL too!
In this post, I’ll cover…

Do natural flea and tick treatments work?
YES! I live in Virginia where it gets hot and humid. There are a lot of ticks here and our winters don’t get cold enough to kill them off so you can find ticks year round.
The only tick I found on my dog was sitting on top of her hair almost dead. I’ve never seen a flea on her before either. I can confidently say the natural preventative/repellant I use on her works to repel and kill fleas and ticks.
What is the least toxic flea and tick preventative?
WONDERCIDE. We love Wondercide. There are only 2 ingredients I’m not a big fan of however, for flea and tick treatment and prevention, it is a great non-toxic option.
Wondercide uses (pet safe) essential oils to repel and kill fleas and ticks. Yes, KILL them. And bonus, it makes your dog smell good too!
Do dogs really need flea and tick treatment?
YES. Ticks not only carry Lyme disease, but they carry a slew of other diseases. Especially in the warm temperatures, ticks are very prevalent. Even if you’re not concerned with your dog getting fleas or ticks, they can pass those annoying pests to humans which can be dangerous.
What is a cheap flea and tick preventative?
WONDERCIDE! My dog’s old Bravecto was over $60 for one treatment. A bottle of Wondercide will run you about $14.
How do you use Wondercide Flea and Tick Spray?
Me and my dog like the Flea & Tick spray from Wondercide however they also make a collar and a spot-on treatment. Because dogs noses are more sensitive to smells than humans, I spray it in my hands and rub it all over her body, focusing on her paws, underbelly, and under her chin.
With the Wondercide Flea & Tick spray, I apply it on my dog before every walk. It may sound annoying but once you get into the routine, it really only takes about 30 seconds of your time.
Also, when you’re just making the switch to Wondercide, spray it on your dog’s things like their bed or a blanket to get them used to the smell before applying it on them.
Can Wondercide be used for tick prevention on humans?
YES. Wondercide makes an insect repellant for people. I compared the ingredient to the one for pets and they look the same (the amount of each ingredient might be different though.) I use the one I have for my dog on myself, but if you have sensitive skin, I recommend the version for humans!
Have you tried natural flea and tick prevention? What was your experience? Let me know in the comments!
