I’ve already done a post about how toxic Bath & Body Works candles are and Yankee Candles aren’t any better. Having a home that smells good is nice, but is it worth burning toxic candles?
I am someone that is sensitive to smells. When I walk into someone’s home and get hit with their fragranced candle, it gives me a headache and sometimes causes me to have upper respiratory symptoms.
Luckily, you don’t have to sacrifice your health for a cozy home that smells good! Companies are stepping up their candle game and making candles that smell really good and are completely non-toxic and free of all toxic chemicals!
In this post, I’ll cover…

What type of candles are non-toxic?
Beeswax candles scented with essential oils are the best, truly non-toxic candle option. Soy Candles have been marketed as healthy candle options however, they can still contain toxic chemicals.
Are all soy wax candles non-toxic?
NO! Soy candles are not all non-toxic. For one, Soy Candles can be marketed as 100% soy and still contain small amounts of paraffin wax. Paraffin wax can emit carcinogenic chemicals such as benzene, toluene, and formaldehyde. As long as over half of the candle is made of soy wax, it can be marketed as a soy candle and they are not required to list ingredients (or disclose that it is a blend of soy and paraffin wax.)
Soy candles, (and really any candle) can contain harmful fragrance ingredients too. Unless the candle is fragranced with essential oils or the company discloses their fragrance ingredients (and they are all toxin free), the fragrance in candles can be harmful. Fragrance can cause hormone disruption, allergies, asthma, and even cancer.
What is the healthiest candle to burn?
Fontana candles are the healthiest, cleanest, completely non-toxic candles to burn! They are made with beeswax and coconut oil and scented with essential oils. They are completely non-toxic/toxin free candles!
Fontana candles are the first candles to become MADE SAFE Certified. Being MADE SAFE Certified means their candles do not contain any ingredients known or suspected to harm human health, animals, or ecosystems.
Fontana candles are also safe for pets since their oil concentrations are low enough to not cause any issues for pets.
Which Fontana candle scents should I try?
I have tried the Fontana candles in Cinnamon Orange Clove, Lemongrass Eucalyptus, Wildflower Citrus, and Fontana sent me Pure Vanilla (their newest scent) to try!
Cinnamon Orange Clove is the perfect holiday scent! You know that concoction of putting cloves into oranges and boiling them with cinnamon sticks to make the house smell like Christmas? Well this is the candle version of that. It’s my go to when I’m in a cozy, homey, or holiday mood.
Wildflower Citrus is a very springy scent! The scent is a blend of Egyptian Geranium, Hungarian Lavender, and Sweet Orange oils. I will say, I could definitely smell the Lavender! If you like a more floral candle, this one is a great option!
Lemongrass Eucalyptus smells so fresh and clean! It’s a blend of Lemongrass, Eucalyptus, and little Lavender essential oil. It gives me that “I just cleaned my apartment in the summer” feeling. I really like this one!
Pure Vanilla smells like Pure Vanilla! It’s on the lighter side of scents but it smells just like Vanilla Bean ice cream. If you’re looking for an overpowering, artificially scented Vanilla candle, this is not it. If you’re looking for a real Vanilla, light scent, this will become your go-to candle! (It’s quickly becoming one of my favorites!)
If you’re not a big candle person, Fontana also makes wax melts, they sell their pure essential oil blends to diffuse, they have bath soaks, and they’ve got some new products in the works too!
