You’ve probably seen Native in the “clean” section of stores like Target and Wegmans. Native makes all kinds of personal care products. Native’s product line includes deodorant, body wash, lotion, skincare, sunscreen, haircare, and toothpaste.
So is Native really clean? In this post I’ll cover…
Is Native Non-Toxic?
Is Native Shampoo Safe?
Is Native Deodorant Safe?
Is Native Really A Clean Brand?
What do I prefer instead of Native for shampoo, deodorant, and skincare?
Is Native Non-Toxic?
Technically, yes. Native does not use chemicals that cause harm in small amounts. They do have quite a few products that contain “Fragrance.” Their fragrance is a blend of essential oils, synthetic oils, and natural extracts.
Since we do not know exactly what ingredients constitute natural oils and synthetic oils, I would not consider it completely TOXIN FREE.
Is Native Shampoo Safe?
Native shampoo is safer than most drugstore and high end brands in terms of ingredients. The only ingredient I wouldn’t consider completely safe in their shampoo is the fragrance (for reasons listed above.)
Is Native Deodorant Safe?
Some scents, YES! Most scents, not completely. Most of Natives deodorants contain fragrance. A few however do not! They have a few scents that are only fragranced with essential oils.
Unfortunately, their website only lists the ingredients that are in every single deodorant and they leave fragrance off the ingredient list online. If you shop in-store, you will see fragrance on the ingredient label of most scents. So frustrating!
Is Native Really A Clean Brand?
In my opinion, since they do use undisclosed fragrance in a lot of their products, I would not consider it 100% clean. Native is way better than the vast majority of brands you will find in the store though. If you are trying to clean up your personal care routine, I would consider it a good option since it’s readily available.

What brands do I prefer instead of Native for shampoo, deodorant, and skincare?
For shampoo, I love Calia and Carina Organics. Both of these brands are completely toxin free!
For deodorant, Earth Mama Organics has a great toxin free deodorant and it works so well!
For skincare, Crunchi is my absolute favorite! You can check out my entire skin care routine here! Click here for $10 off your first Crunchi purchase of $50 when you see my name in the top right corner! (Discount automatically applied at checkout.)
Things I personally don’t like about Native…
Number one, I don’t like that they don’t disclose their fragrance ingredients. To me, it would seem if you have nothing to hide, you wouldn’t hide behind a “proprietary blend” excuse for not disclosing all ingredients. Most actually clean companies are proud to disclose their fragrance ingredients.
I’m not saying they aren’t clean, I’m just saying there is no way to 100% know for sure.
Also, Native is part of Proctor & Gamble and I do not support Proctor & Gamble what so ever. Brands within their company are known to be very toxic! Pampers, Bounce, Downy, Dreft, Gain, Tide, Always, Tampax, Old Spice, Pantene, Febreze, Secret, the toxic list goes on!
Even the “organic” feminine care products brand L. is part of Proctor & Gamble and if you want to know why they’re not clean check out this post.
Overall, I think Native is a better option and I like that they are easily accessible, but I don’t think it’s the cleanest. There are better brands out there that are 100% clean and toxin free. Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
Thank you you the helpful article! My daughter is having early puberty and the dr said she will start her period at age 8. I’m trying to see if there’s anything we can do to help her with this. Do you have a body wash or soap you use?
For body wash, I love Crunchi’s Charcoal Body Bar, Zum Bar Soap, and Fontana Candle Co. Bar Soaps! They’re all toxin free and don’t contain “fragrance” chemicals. Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap is also a great all-in-one kind of soap. I dilute it and use it as hand soap, body wash, fruit & veggie wash, I’ve cleaned with it too!
