I love the topic of women’s health! Way too many women have no idea that their symptoms that seem “normal” actually aren’t normal and doctors don’t know how to address it other than putting women on birth control.
There are things we do daily that we don’t even think about that could be contributing to your period cramps or other hormone imbalance issues.
In this post, I’ll cover…
What happens when a woman’s hormones are not balanced?
What causes hormone imbalances?
Chemicals that cause hormone imbalances.
How can I fix my hormone imbalance?

What happens when a woman’s hormones are not balanced?
Hormone imbalances can cause a wide range of symptoms such as weight gain or weight loss, period cramps, unwanted hair growth or hair loss, digestive issues, acne, PCOS, fatigue, brain fog, migraines, anxiety, depression, mood swings, low sex drive, trouble sleeping, and many, many, many more.
When a hormone imbalance is severe enough, it can even lead to cancer.
What causes hormone imbalances?
As a holistic health coach, I 100% believe that diet and lifestyle are the biggest factors that cause hormone imbalances.
Diets lacking nutrients, full of food imitations, and lacking real food can cause our hormones to get all screwed up because we are not fueling our bodies properly.
Not getting enough good quality sleep can also cause hormonal issues. It’s so important for adults to get 7-9 hours of sleep a night!
Stress can also wreak havoc on our hormones. The constant fight/flight state causes our body to constantly release stress hormones. This can cause gut issues which can lead to a hormone imbalance. If your gut is not functioning properly, your body can not eliminate excess hormones which causes an imbalance. Isn’t it crazy how the systems in our bodies are all connected??!
The products we use daily can have a significant impact on our hormones. There are a number of hormone disrupting chemicals in our daily products, from air fresheners and candles, to our skincare and makeup. These ingredients include…
-BPA (plastic)
-Parabens (personal care products)
-Dioxin (non-organic Tampons, pads, diapers)
-Oxybenzone (sunscreen)
-Homosalate (sunscreen)
-Triclosan (antibacterial soap)
-Teflon/PTFE (non-stick cookware)
-Fragrance (everything)
-Glyphosate (GMO foods)
-Japanese Honeysuckle (makeup & skincare)
-Benzophenones (sunscreen)
-Resorcinol (makeup & skincare)
How can I fix my hormone imbalance?
First and foremost, to fix a hormone imbalance, you need to eat clean foods, get plenty of sleep, de-stress (easier said than done), and swap products to toxin free versions.
I also highly recommend getting rid of as much plastic as you can. BPA isn’t the only hormone disrupting chemical in plastic…it’s just the most well known one. Some ways to decrease your plastic exposure are…
-Don’t use plastic tea bags or coffee filters.
-Drink filtered water or reverse osmosis water instead of bottled water. (Use code SIMPLYSARENA10 for 10% OFF $150 or more from Waterdrop.)
-Try to get products that come in plastic free packaging.
-Use glass food storage containers instead of plastic.
I have also been LOVING the Earthley Women’s Health Bundle. It comes with their “Natural Balance”, “Lunamore”, and “Ease The Ache” tinctures. Natural Balance is great for overall hormone balance. Lunamore is great if you have more severe issues such as PCOS, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, and bad period cramps. Ease The Ache is a wonderful alternative to over the counter pain meds to give relief from period cramps.
Ever since using the Earthley Women’s Health Bundle, my periods haven’t been an issue for me and my skin has been looking clear and bright!
Don’t forget though, you can’t supplement your way out of a bad diet and poor lifestyle choices! Supplements are to support a healthy lifestyle. If you supplement on top of your bad diet and poor lifestyle, the supplements won’t do much for you.
These are just overall recommendations. If you want more personalized recommendations for your unique issues, I highly recommend working with a holistic health and wellness coach!
Did any of this surprise you? Have you found natural relief from your hormonal issues? Let me know in the comments!
