This is my first year renting a house. I’ve been looking forward to decorating for Christmas ever since I moved in back in June! I started stocking up on Christmas decorations as soon as my local Walmart put them out on the shelves in September. Normally, I decorate my parents house (which I’ll still do this year), but it was a lot of fun starting from scratch and decorating my own house!
I love seeing posts on other bloggers Christmas decorations, so I wanted to share how I decorated my house for Christmas as well!
I love nice, classic Christmas decorations. Just traditional red, green, silver, and gold. I’m not a huge fan of colored lights. I stuck to all white lights and added little pops of red, silver, and gold throughout.
Christmas Decorations I Used
I got all of my lights, ornaments, garland, and other little fun things to put in the garland at Walmart. Walmart has such cute, affordable decorations. I don’t think I spent any more than $7 on any single piece of decor. My boyfriend gave me his big Christmas Tree and my sister gave me her smaller tree, so I didn’t have to buy those.
I wrapped all of my banisters and railings with garland and lights. I added little glittery accents to the garland to add some color.
On the wall as you go up my staircase, there is a ledge. I decorated it with garland, lights, and red, silver, and gold poinsettia’s. Unfortunately, there’s no outlet to plug in my lights on the way up the stairs. I had to cross the wall with lights to plug them in. It looks a bit tacky in my opinion, but I couldn’t think of a better way to put lights on the ledge.
I topped both of my trees with a poinsettia I found for $0.98 at Walmart. It’s the same poinsettia that I put on the ledge. That was much more affordable than a star to top my trees, and it goes with my theme. I got a little tub of red, white, and silver bulb ornaments, and I found a little box of gold snowflake ornaments. I used the same ornaments for both of my trees. Some people don’t like tinsel, but I do! So, I threw a little tinsel on the tips of the branches for a little sparkle! I’m not a fan of tinsel garland, but I LOVE adding strands of tinsel!
Lastly, I hung the stockings under the mirror I have in my living room. There’s not a fireplace in my living room, so I just stuck some command hooks on the wall and hung them.
I hope you enjoyed seeing how I decorated my house for Christmas! If you have any suggestions for the ledge light situation, I’d love to hear them! And be sure to check out my last DIY Christmas post.
I’d recommend battery powered lights for lighting the ledge. Many of them have timers on them now, so you don’t have to worry about turning them on/off every day.
That’s a really good idea! I’ll have to look for some. I thought about it but I wasn’t sure if they made battery powered outdoor lights.
