How to Fade Acne Scars (even the textured ones)

Blog

How I faded my acne scars, discoloration and textured acne scars by using a micro roller.

I used to suffer from terrible cystic acne. If you want to read about that story and how I cleared my skin for good, click here. Unfortunately, my acne left me with pretty bad acne scars. I had lots of discoloration and textured scars (I had a few of the “crater” scars but most of mine were the wavy looking ones which aren’t as deep as craters.) There are lots of DIY face mask recipes, creams, oils, and tools out there to help fade the color of acne scars, but I had to do a lot of digging and trial and error before I found a product that really WORKS!

Micro rolling is the BEST Treatment for Acne Scars I’ve Ever Tried!

Micro needling is a treatment you can get from an esthetician where they basically poke little needles into your skin to help your skin rebuild collagen and even out texture. It can help with acne scars and wrinkles. But, micro needling can be pricey! I did not and still can not afford it. There is a treatment you can do AT HOME that’s very similar to micro needling. It’s called micro rolling. You take a little roller device covered in tiny needles and roll it over your skin. These little rollers are MUCH more affordable and they’re pretty painless!

This is the Banish kit I have. I got the kit about 2 years ago and have been using it ever since (just replace the roller every 8 uses.)

I have the micro roller from Banish but there’s a lot of companies that make them. You can find different sized needles for your purpose. I’ve only used the shortest length and it worked amazingly for me however, if you have MAJOR texture problems, start with the smallest size for your skin to get used to it then work your way up. The Banish kit comes with the roller, a serum to use after you roll (which is really moisturizing), and a little container to clean the roller in. You do need to clean your roller before each use since you are poking your face with needles. You just soak it in rubbing alcohol to clean it.

This is the roller with little needles all over it.

I’ve only done about 8 total treatments over the past 2 years with a micro roller and it has almost COMPLETELY evened out the texture of my skin. I get frequent compliments from other girls telling me how smooth my skin looks and how they wish their skin looked as smooth as mine. I’m like girlll, you have no idea! I NEVER thought anyone would EVER compliment the texture of my skin. I’m so glad I found out about micro rolling! (The kit I have from Banish is $75)

If you’ve heard about micro rolling but are afraid to try it because the idea of sticking tiny little needles all over your face doesn’t sound too appealing, don’t be! It’s not the most comfortable 30 seconds of my life, but it’s not painful! And the results are so worth it!

Tips for Micro rolling to Fade Acne Scars

Tip 1:

Do NOT apply any toner or cream with alcohol, salicylic acid, or any other harsh chemical right after rolling…it WILL burn! It will make your face even redder than it already is after rolling and it will irritate your skin. Also, along those lines, don’t apply makeup for at least 12 hours or so after rolling. Most kits warn you not to do that but one time, I did anyways and broke out pretty bad. When you roll, you’re poking little holes in your skin so it’s easy for nasty chemicals to get in there and clog it up.

Tip 2:

Don’t roll in the morning before you’re going out in public. Your face will be RED!

Tip 3:

Don’t roll too often. I did it once a week for about 3 weeks when I first started. After that, I did it once ever couple of months. Since my skin has smoothed out so much, I do it maybe twice a year (and more for the slight wrinkles on my forehead then my scarring.) If you roll too often, your skin will get irritated.

Micro rollers were heaven sent when I had bad scarring! If you struggle with the texture of your scars, give micro rolling a try! If you feel like $75 is expensive for a roller kit, Banish has a program periodically where you can get a free kit by writing 8 blog posts about acne for the Banish blog. There’s more details on the Banish website.

If you’ve tried micro rolling, please leave a comment! I’d LOVE to hear about your experience!

*I have purchased this product myself and am not being paid to review it. I just REALLY love it because it worked so well to get rid of my acne scars!

When you think of a snack, what kind of food do yo When you think of a snack, what kind of food do you think of? One of my girlfriends asked me this morning what some healthy snack options are besides protein bars and I realized, so many people associate snacks with packaged food...quick grab and go things like a bag of potato chips, granola bars (loaded with sugar), snack cakes, fruit snacks, popcorn, etc.

Snacks don’t have to be junk and snacks can be quick, easy, and made with REAL FOOD!

Swipe through for some of my favorite snacks!

🥑 Avocado Toast: I use @foodforlifebaking sprouted grains gluten free bread, spread a ripe avocado on it, and top it with some everything bagel seasoning. To pack for work, I pack the avocado separately then spread it over the toast when I’m ready to eat it.

🥜 Rice Cake & Nut Butter: I use @lundbergfarms rice cakes and top it with some peanut butter or almond butter. Sometimes, I even add cacao nibs on top.

🍇 Yogurt & Fruit: I like the @foragerproject plain cashew yogurt and I add blueberries to it!

🍌 Banana (or other fruit) & Nut Butter: One of the quickest, go-to snacks for me is peanut butter and banana. It’s sweet, salty, and filling! I use organic, natural peanut butter (the only ingredient should be peanuts).

🥕 Hummus and Veggies or Crackers (or both): I love the Wegmans red pepper hummus (check the ingredients...the one I like is made with olive oil, the others are made with canola oil 🤢) paired with @marysgonecrackers or organic veggies!

Regenerative Agriculture can pretty much save the Regenerative Agriculture can pretty much save the planet 🌎

Me and a few of my girlfriends went to a pumpkin patch with a corn maze and the clues through the corn maze were all about regenerative agriculture!

Regenerative agriculture doesn’t use pesticides or herbicides like roundup which add loads of toxic chemicals into the environment and our food. They don’t till the land which depletes the soil. The soil then turns to dirt which you can’t grow anything in. Dirt also doesn’t absorb water the way soil does which can lead to natural disasters like floods and fires. No monocropping...diversifying your crops produces more food and if you plan accordingly, crops can help other crops grow by protecting them from pests or even too much sunlight!

Random post for a Sunday night, but visiting a farm that uses regenerative agriculture was inspiring and reminded me why it’s so important and how much work we need to do to fix our food system! 🌾🌽🥦🍅🥕

🌱Today is Health Coach Day!!!🌱 My journey s 🌱Today is Health Coach Day!!!🌱

My journey started about 10 years ago with my skin issues, which turned out to be gut issues manifesting in my skin.

The gut issues I was having was due to a poor, gluten heavy diet. My body was struggling to properly digest gluten which was causing me sinus issues and headaches on top of my skin problems.

I cut out gluten, healed my gut, and cured my acne, headaches, sinus problems, and allergies! These problems are all caused by inflammation! Most chronic illnesses are caused my inflammation and if you don’t address the source and just take a pill to mask the symptoms, you will never be cured.

I’m so thankful for my journey, because it led me to @nutritionschool where I learned how to help others heal themselves and reach their health and wellness goals!
